After nearly two years of fighting, Commissioner David Stern recently announced the he and Derek Fisher, the president of the players' association, reached a tentative agreement early Saturday to end the 149-day lockout. He added, "We want to play basketball."
The NBA is hoping to begin the delayed season with a marquee tripleheader on Dec. 25.
So if all goes well, the 2011-12 season will open with the Boston Celtics at New York Knicks, followed by Miami at Dallas and Chicago at LA. But neither party provided many specifics about the deal.
"We thought it was in both of our interest to try to reach a resolution and save the game," said union executive director Billy Hunter.
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade told The Associated Press, "All I feel right now is 'finally.'"
